CSC are proud to offer for sale this very rare and exciting driver focused lightweight Zenos E10R ‘drive edition’ which has covered just 3500 miles with 2 private owners and is presented in superb condition throughout.

Zenos Cars, based in Hethel, Norfolk was founded in 2012 by two former colleagues who had previously worked together for both Lotus and Caterham. Their vision was an affordable and easy to run, light weight, contemporary and high performance sports car which would appeal to the enthusiast road and track driver.

Project E10 would be powered by a 200bhp mid and transversely mounted engine, with a target kerb weight of 650kg and a power to weight ratio of over 300bhp per tonne. Up to three variants would be offered in different specifications and levels of performance.

Although the car would very much be a ‘back to basics’ design, cutting edge technology would be incorporated to maximise lightness, stiffness and performance. A single aluminium backbone extrusion mated to a carbonfibre-composite tub would form the underpinnings of the car.

Componentry would be supplied by such suppliers as Bilstein, OZ, Titan, Avon, Alcon and Ford for the engines.

The hand-produced Zenos E10 began in January 2015. The initial models were the standard E10 and larger turbo 250bhp E10 S variant. The car was powered by Fords 2.0 turbo charged Ecoboost engine with a manual transmission from Hendy Power. Front and rear suspension were double wishbones and featured fully adjustable bilstein suspension being fully adjustable whilst the brakes were unassisted helping to keep weight down. The cars came with an open diff as standard, though a limited slip diff would become an option.

The bonded tub featured a thermosetting plastic core and carbon fibre skin sections whilst the bodywork consisted of 18 separate and easily replaceable panels to keep repair costs down. The cars were available with a small ‘aero screen’ or optional full windscreen making road use much easier. A ‘get you home’ hood and tonneau cover were also available.

Despite being designed for short and focused driving or track days rather than being a practical tourer, the cabin was more spacious than other similar offerings from lotus or Caterham, and once established in the seat, the Zenon offered a less claustrophobic passenger experience, with ample leg room for the taller occupant and token arm rests. The steering column was fixed though a removable steering wheel was available to aid driver entry and exit, and the pedal box offered good pedal spacing. Seating was very much of the racing variety and although simple and firm, they were well contoured and generally comfortable once the occupant was strapped in, and heated seats were offered as part of the optional ‘track pack’.

Performance was guaranteed and when the E10S was tested by the motoring press, 0 to 60 was achieved in under 4.5 seconds with 100mph achieved in 11 seconds giving a Zenos owner some serious car meet bragging rights.

In summer 2016, the Zenos E10 R was launched with 40% more power, more driver focus and at an increased price of £40,000. The 2.0 EcoBoost unit was now replaced with the bigger 2.3 litre unit from the Focus RS and offering 350bhp and 350lb of torque and the six speed manual transmission benefitted from a short shift upgrade for increased precision. Seats were ultra-light carbon composite shell items with minimal foam padding and 4 point harnesses.

The E10 R also featured a more aggressive and track focused chassis set up with slightly upped spring rates and retuned dampers. The OZ lightweight wheels saved 10kg of unsprung weight and the Avon ZZR tyres replaced the previous ZZS rubber.
The E10 R featured a revised braking system in order to prvide a more progressive and communicative brake pedal whilst 4-pot Alcon brake calipers were fitted to ventilated front discs.

Weighing in at just 700kg (dry) the E10R had a power to weight ratio of 508bhp per tonne and a 0 to 60 time of under 3.5 seconds putting the car firmly into the performance car big leagues.

The E10 R was lauched with a limited edition run of just 15 ‘Drive Edition’ cars priced at £44,000 which came enhanced with adjustable Bilstein dampers, Removable Racing Steering Wheel, 6 point harnesses, Carbon Leather interior trim, Charged Graphite paint scheme, Black Anodised spine, Contrasting Decals and Numbered Cabin plaque.

Unfortunately following export issues and a market downturn in late 2016, Zenos cars went into administration in January 2017 and the company assets were purchased by a consortium including AC Cars with a view to possibly reviving the brand at a future date. With very few cars produced, the Zenos E10 has become a very rare modern car with huge collectable potential.
