Following the 997’s launch in 2004, the turbo debuted at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show with an engine based on the 911 GT1’s design, using 2 Variable Turbine Geometry (VTG) turbo chargers and offering 473bhp. The optional ‘Sport Chrono’ package would also allow a 10 second ‘over-boost’ from 1.0 bar to 1.2 bar increasing peak torque over a narrow RPM range. The torque was managed by Porsche’s Traction Management (PTM) system in conjunction with Porsche Stability Management (PSM) system. Gearbox options were 6 speed manual or 5 speed tiptronic S transmission.

Performance was impressive with official figures claiming the manual 997 turbo could accelerate from 0-62mph in 3.7 seconds and on to 124mph in 12.8 seconds and could achieve a top speed of 193mph.

These 1st generation 997 turbo’s were the last 911 turbo to use the hugely reliable and race proven Mezger engine with its provenance dating back to the 911’s air-cooled era and which went on to great success in the 911 GT1 race car of 1996. The Mezger engine did live on for the remainder of 997 production in the GT3 model only.

This particular example has had 1 mature owner from new and has covered just 27,000 miles over the last 17 years. The 997 was ordered with a nice specification, designed with comfortable touring in mind and features heated & ventilated seats, auto transmission, navigation, BOSE sound, cruise control & xenon headlights. The Basalt Black paintwork presents beautifully with no major marks or blemishes, whilst the diamond cut turbo alloy wheels are in excellent, unmarked condition with N rated Michelin Pilot Sport tyres all round.

Internally the touring theme features 16-way electrically adjustable seats with both heating and ventilation and drivers seat memory position selection. The immaculate interior is trimmed in classic Black Leather with contrasting Silver Stitching. The ‘turbo’ branded instrument cluster and sport-chrono watch faces are finished in silver whilst the headlining is finished in dark grey Alcantara and the carpets are protected by factory fitted over-mats.

As you would expect, on the road this 997 drives faultlessly and offers all the performance anyone could realistically need on any occasion with the added security of all wheel drive. The Tiptronic transmission works perfectly with the torque delivery of the twin turbo engine and makes for swift and effortless distance covering.

HISTORY:
The car was first registered on 20th May 2009 at Porsche Centre Solihull to the current private owner. The car was purchased for its performance and practicality for use on occasional long-distance tours. The detailed service history file and service book show the car was maintained by official Porsche Centres until 2017 when servicing and maintenance was entrusted to specialist independents, mainly Ninemeister Porsche here in Cheshire. After 10 years of enjoying the car on holidays and vacations, use of the car reduced as other family commitments started to take priority and the car has been largely unused, residing in the owner’s garage in recent years.
