DESCRIPTION:
CSC present for sale this unique 1974 3.0 RS Style Homage based on a 1984 3.2 Carrera Sport Coupe. This has been a long term build project by the current Porsche enthusiast owner who set out to build a useable 3.0 RS recreation with many period features and an authentic patina look.

The base car started out as a 1984 911 3.2 Carrera Sport Coupe in Red which was delivered on 19th January 1984 and registered by Matlin Porsche. The car has had 6 former owners and was purchased by the current owner for the basis of the RS project.

The Bodyshell has been painstakingly stripped, repaired where required and rebuilt with many new parts and repairs including a full steel ‘non sunroof’ roof, replacement front wings with steel RSR front arches, Inner and Outer sills, B Posts, Kidney Bowls, Inner Rear Quarters, Turbo rear arches and finished in grand prix white.

Mechanically the car has also received a lot of attention and maintenance including 2 previous engine rebuilds and has since received many replacement parts including uprated brakes, oil system refurbishment, heat exchangers and custom rear exhaust silencer.

The 3.2 engine has had 2 rebuilds during its life, the first at 96,000 miles and then a later, full rebuild at 150,000 miles, since which the car has now covered around 27,000 miles and runs really nicely. In 2008 the 911 received a replacement clutch at 174,000 miles along with a gearbox service.

Looking through the servicing and maintenance documentation, the car has specialist servicing stamps for 12k, 24k, 37k, 43k, 56k, 61k, 67k, 72k, 87k 1st engine rebuild at 96k, 101k, 119k, 124k, 2nd engine rebuild at 150k. Paper MOT history runs from 79k to 174k miles and then are available online.

This car is a real head turner, and certainly looks the part. The Bodywork generally presents well with good paintwork from the front windscreen back. The front wings were finally completed with weld in RSR arches more recently and ideally require final refinishing to match the rest of the car.

Similarly, the front RS bumper has been provisionally fitted but ideally requires final preparation and finishing with the central intake grill (supplied with the car) fitted to complete the look. The rear RS wing / engine lid is thought to be original, however as these fiberglass panels were prone to distortion and poor fitment, this panel fit and finish could also be improved.

The unique 15” 917 style alloy wheels are a nod to Porsches racing heritage and certainly look very business-like. Despite their ‘centre-lock’ look, they are in fact a standard 5 stud fitment which makes regular maintenance much easier.

Internally, the car has received a lightweight RS style make-over including RS style door cards with leather pull-cord door openers and wind-up windows. The seats are believed to be a set of period 70’s Scheel bucket seats, possibly from a BMW of the time and fitted with Porsche adjustable runners. The seats appear to have been refurbished at some point in their history and remain useable and comfortable though they are now showing some signs of use.

The interior also benefits from a new headlining and carpet set which has been fitted over new soundproofing to add a touch of comfort to what is a very raw 911 driving experience.

On the road, this RS recreation drives really well. The engine starts on the button and runs beautifully, the car pulls strongly in each gear, whilst the 915 gearbox is also easy to use and behaves better than most. The car drives straight and true and the brakes feel positive and pull the car up straight and true. The aural sound track from the custom 2 in – 2 out exhaust ads to the driving experience to complete what is ultimately a very raw and classic 911 driving experience.

SUMMERY:
This 74 RS Homage offers a solid and nice driving base car with much of the main work completed but leaves a few areas for someone to make some finer refinements and personalisation as they choose. The car is not concourse by any means, but was built to retain an authentic patina look and be a useable driver’s car as opposed to an immaculate show queen. As stated, it is accepted that some areas do still require some ‘finishing and fettling’ though the car is perfectly useable as it is.

The car comes with a fair amount of documentation including:-
V5C showing 6 former keepers, the original Porsche owners document pack with manual and maintenance record and spare keys.
There is also a significant history file with the car.
