PORSCHE 911 (993) Carrera 2 Cabriolet, 1994, 73,000 miles, Midnight Blue Metallic, Blue & Grey Leather, Dark Blue Hood, Superb Example.

CSC present for sale this simply superb Porsche 911 993 Carrera 2 Cabriolet finished in stunning Midnight Blue with complementing Blue hood with Marble Grey and Midnight Blue leather interior.

The Porsche 911 (993) was available between January 1994 and early 1998 and replaced the previous model 964 from which only 20% of parts were carried over. Porsche refered to the 993 as a ‘significant advance in both technical and visual perspective’ and the cars featured a new light-alloy subframe with coil and wishbone multi-link suspension which was seen as a significant step forwards in handling.

The 993 model was also the first 911 to receive a 6-speed manual gearbox though Porsches 4-speed tiptronic automatic transmission as seen on the previous 964 models remained an option. The 993 was available in rear wheel drive or 4 wheel drive varients as per the 964.

Perhaps the most obvious change was the external styling of the 993 which featured heavily revised exterior panels with more flared front and rear wings, smoother front and rear bumpers. The ‘traditional’ 911 headlights were also updated for the first time with a much smoother, more raked back styling and more modern ‘projector’ type headlights reminiscent of those featured on the 959. All 993 models apart from the turbo variant also retained the electronically activated rear spoiler from the 964 which was deployed at speed to increase downforce and aid engine cooling.

The Cabriolet variant was introduced alongside the coupe and features a fully electrical hand-stitched reinforced soft top which also came with a matching tonneau cover to neaten up the cars looks with the top open.

This particular example is in superb condition throughout. Externally the Midnight Blue paintwork presents very well and shows off the classic 911 curves beautifully.
The car retains the original factory 17 inch ‘Cup 2’ alloy wheels which are in very nice condition with no curbing damage whilst other details such as the rear light units and central reflector (often found in a poor state) are also in excellent condition with no fading or cracking.

The electrically operated cabriolet hood is finished in complimentary dark blue and was replaced with a new OEM item in 2019 at a cost of £2500 and is therefore in superb condition with no major marks or signs of wear. The hood also has a matching tonneau cover which tidies up the look of the car with the hood open. A removable OEM wind deflector also comes with the car which makes roof down motoring a less draughty experience!

Internally two tone Grey and Blue interior compliments the exterior perfectly. The Marble Grey leather and all other areas of trim, carpets, fascia’s & finishes all in excellent condition, infact the whole interior of this car is probably one of the cleanest of all the 993’s we’ve seen. All electrics and controls appear to be working correctly and a set of matching Midnight Blue over-mats protect the colour coded carpets.

The seats are both 8-way electrically adjustable along with the electrically operated windows, electrically heated mirrors and convertible roof which folds away quickly at the simple press of a button. The rear spoiler can be electrically raised at will via a button on the centre console. The car also has the on-board trip computer option giving instant economy and average speed figures etc.

The front compartment area is again in superb, clean and tidy condition with well fitted carpet trim below which the space saver spare wheel, wheel jack and tool kit and tyre compressor are all present and correct. At the rear of the car, the engine bay again presents beautifully and looks well cared for with a tidy engine insulation pad and factory stickers all in place.

Mechanically the car runs and drives just as well as it looks. The engine idles smoothly and on the move, power delivery is smooth and strong with a glorious flat six howl towards the higher end of the rev range. The car literally pulls like a train in each gear feeling rather more powerful than the official 272bhp figure suggest whilst the 6 speed manual gear box is smooth, precise and a joy to operate. The brakes feel smooth, powerful and confidence inspiring as they should, and the classic 911 steering feel is a real old school treat to a seasoned Porsche enthusiast.

Unusually for an air-cooled 911, the air conditioning system is fully functioning on this car since the current owner had the supplying Official Porsche Centre refurbish the system with many components including the compressor being replaced. The car also benefits from a replacement clutch and flywheel fitted by Ninemeister at 70,000 miles.
