CSC offer for sale this beautifully presented and un-molested low mileage, 40th Year Edition Carrera. Finished in stunning GT Silver with complementing dark grey leather interior this example retains all the original features of this very rare and collectable limited edition 996 variant.

In 2003, Porsche celebrated 40 years of the 911 and so announced a special edition to mark the occasion as it had done 10 years earlier with the 964 Celebration marking 30 years. The build was limited to just 1,963 cars with around 125 examples being allocated to the UK market. All cars were finished in GT Silver metallic (a colour originally created for the Carrera GT) and the Anniversary came with a high spec dark grey natural leather interior.

Externally, the Anniversary models come with some unique styling features comprising of a turbo style front bumper with colour coded intake grills, aero kit side sill extensions and 18’’ Carrera Alloy wheels featuring a polished finish. Stainless steel exhaust tips hint at the uprated engine whilst the Engine lid carry’s a unique ‘911 40 Jahre’ badging instead of the usual ‘Carrera’ script.

Inside the car, the natural leather dark grey leather seats feature unique perforated pattern and a leather finished steering wheel centre. The interior is lifted by a body coloured centre console and silver instrument trims. The Anniversary edition comes with a high specification including BOSE sound, PCM with Navigation, Heated and electrically adjustable front seats. The centre console homes a unique numbered plaque with the build number of each car.

Perhaps the best feature of the Anniversary edition is hidden away, under the engine cover in the form of Porsches X51 Power upgrade pack which increases the engines output by 25bhp to 345bhp. The X51 upgrade was optional to regular 996 Carrera buyers of the day, but as it came with a hefty price tag of around £8,000, very few new purchasers ticked that particular option box.

The X51 Power upgrade comprises of a modified intake manifold, enlarged exhaust manifolds, upgraded cylinder heads, camshafts, inlet valve springs and a modified ECU map. To anyone familiar with driving a standard 996 Carrera, the extra 25bhp is more noticeable than you might think and offers more torque at low rpm’s and then a real surge in power higher in the rev range. The additional performance reduced the 0 to 62mph acceleration time by 0.2 seconds whilst adding 5mph to the cars top speed.

Bear in mind that the 996 GT3 of the day had an output of only 36bhp more at 381bhp and it puts the power upgrade into perspective. In order to make the 345bhp more useable, the Anniversary comes with a limited slip differential and uprated M030 sports suspension which lowers the car 10mm all round, aided by Porsche Stability Management (PSM).

So ultimately, the Anniversary Edition 996 is compact, rear wheel drive, manual 911 with 345bhp on tap on sports suspension with a few ‘nice to have’ creature comforts at hand. For this reason, the February edition of GT Porsche magazine names the 996 Anniversary as one of the greatest 911’s of all time.

More drivable and practical on the road than a GT3, and lighter and more pure than the barnstorming 420bhp, wide-bodied 4 wheel drive all out turbo. Throw in the rarity value and affordability compared to the same era GT3 and turbo also and they may just have a point.

This Particular example, No.1256 presents beautifully with immaculate GT Silver bodywork which is free from any major blemishes and original polish finished alloy wheels as you would expect given the very low mileage. Inside, the car features optional 8 way electrically adjustable seats and the dark grey leather interior is again in superb condition and shows no major signs of wear or use and retains all of this special editions original features.

On the road, the car feels tight and responsive as you would expect with light but accurate controls, and sure footed handling. The 3.6 litre engine idles smoothly and pulls strongly in each gear, with the X51 power package offering the extra performance and making swift progress extremely easy.

The Anniversary edition has a lot to offer the 911 enthusiast with its combination of rear wheel drive, manual transmission platform, and upgraded engine along with its unique body styling features which make it stand out from the crowd. This model also offers good long term investment potential as one of less than 200 remaining UK cars.
