CSC present for sale this superb 2003 mk1 Focus RS finished in stunning Imperial Blue Metallic. A few taste-full and discrete modifications aside, this example remains largely standard and un-molested and one of the better examples currently available.
The successor to the highly acclaimed Escort RS Cosworth from 6 years earlier, the much anticipated Focus RS was launched in 2002. Available as a limited run of 4,501 cars across Europe only until late 2003 the RS was available in 3 door form and one colour (imperial Blue) only. The demand in the UK was so high that just under half of all Focus RS’s (2,147) came to the UK in right hand drive form.
Power was provided by fords own 2.0 litre 1turbocharged 16-valve duratec engine producing 212bhp, delivered to the front wheels aided by a Quaife ATB limited-slip differential. Brembo brakes were standard along with a host of other performance enhancing changes. The performance figures were fairly serious for the day with 0-62mph in 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 144mph.
Body styling was based on the Focus WRC car with an aggressive front bumper, flared wheel arches and high level rear wing. 18-inch O.Z. alloy wheels completed the exterior sporty look. Inside, the interior was dominated by Sparco race-style seats finished in black and blue trim along with the leather steering wheel to compliment the exterior. Standard equipment included Anti-lock brakes, Air-conditioning, Radio CD, Electric Windows and Mirrors.
This particular example - number 2,084, has covered just 60,000 miles and is presented in superb condition throughout. The bodywork remains in excellent condition with straight lines and no major blemishes to the stunning Imperial Blue paintwork. The Interior is presented in the same manor with no major signs of damage or wear to the leather and alcantara trim.
On the road, the car drives as expected, feeling tight and accurate with smooth power delivery throughout the rev range. The gearbox, brakes and steering all feel precise and reassuring with plenty of performance to hand. These mk1 Focus’s offer a welcome return to driver feel and involvement for any driving enthusiast when compared to the modern day, over complicated and dull offerings.
The turbo charged 2.0 Duratec engine in these cars are renowned for their ‘tunability’ and cars with un-official power increases and performance modifications are commonplace. Thankfully, this example remains in largely standard OEM guise with the only modifications to this example being a Bluefin ECU remap (+25bhp), a Mongoose exhaust system and a gloss black front spoiler lip. The car also benefits from the recent fitment of an uprated Sachs Clutch kit.
