CSC are excited to offer for sale this early mk2 Fiesta XR2 first registered the day after A-HA took the UK No.1 spot away from The Pet Shop Boys, with ’the sun always shines on TV. In all that time, this XR2 has covered a mere 32,000 miles with just 1 private owner from new.
32 years old on the 20th January 2018, the car still remains in standard factory specification. The car remains original having never been subject to a restoration un-like the majority of these cars now being offered for sale. Although not concourse being 32 years old, the car still presents very well with clean, straight bodywork. The XR2 retains all its original period correct equipment including the iconic ‘pepper-pot’ alloy wheels wearing original specification Pirelli P600 tyres and original Carello spot lights.
These early examples of the mk2 XR2 have some subtle differences from the more common later variants, with trim most noticeable thing. The interior features Black ‘Rainbow’ cloth trim and grey dashboard trim and steering wheel. The centre console features a deep cassette storage bin and the there is a remote boot release which was deleted in the later models. The boot trim is also grey as opposed to the later black material.
The car has been largely un-used for the last 15 years, remaining stored away in the elderly owner’s garage although it has been taken out periodically for the annual MOT and minor maintenance work as required. Now unable to drive the car any more, the owner decided the time had come to sell her beloved Fiesta.
Bodywork wise, the car presents very nicely. Having been all over the car with a paint-meter, the paint thickness varies between around 115 microns on upper surfaces to around 85 microns on the vertical surfaces which is consistent with factory applied paint thicknesses. The paint meter found no areas showing of repair or filler. There is the odd small mark or chip in the paintwork on very close inspection but nothing obvious or major to detract from the cars overall appearance.
All plastics and trim remain in excellent condition and the car still wears its original trademark spot lights which remain in superb condition. The car still wears the original ‘Wolverhampton Ford’ supplying dealer number plates and rear window sticker.
Internally, the dark cloth interior which these early mk2 XR2’s came with is in excellent condition with no major marking or signs of wear, all original equipment remains including the standard Radio Cassette unit. Carpets and trim also remain in excellent condition. The boot area looks un-used with an un-damaged parcel shelf, and removable floor panels which reveal the spare alloy wheel and tools.
The engine bay is as clean and tidy with all original specification parts of the 1.6 CVH engine remaining un-molested.
In summary, a very clean and original 1 owner early mk2 XR2 with low mileage and classic ‘fast ford’ long term investment potential.
*Engine: 1.6 4 cylinder CVH
*Transmission: 5 Speed Manual
*Drive-train: Front Wheel Drive
*Acceleration (0-62mph): 8.7 seconds
*Top Speed: 112mph
This XR2 was registered new to the current owner on 20th January 1986 at Wolverhampton Ford.
The XR2 was used daily on short journeys for its first few years before being used less in its later life. With the owner not wishing to be separated from the car despite its low use, it was put into the owners garage for long term storage around 2002 and has since only surfaced for annual MOT checks, minor repairs and servicing.
With the owner now no longer able to drive, and interest in o1980’s and 90’s hot hatches growing the decision was made towards the end of 2016 to put the car up for sale in the near future.
In preparation for sale, the car has undergone some light re-commissioning work over the last 12 months or so including the following:-
*New exhaust system
*Lower arm ball joints
*New brake discs and pads
*Now ignition coil
*New Spark plugs
*Oil and Filter service
The recently carried out MOT is valid until the 12th November 2018 and shows no advisory points.
The car is HPi clear a copy of which is available with the car which comes with all its original keys and the original Ford owners wallet containing the various Hand Books.
A truly rare opportunity to purchase an un-restored, 1 owner, low mileage early mk2 XR2 in excellent original condition.
