We present for sale this very rare, original 1st generation Dodge Viper Roadster in wall-poster red. According to the DVLA there are less than 30 of these early viper roadsters in the UK.

Conceived in 1988 by Chrysler as a modern take on the classic AC Cobra, production of the Viper roadster began in 1991 with the first deliveries taking place in 1992. The centre piece of the RT/10 was its 8 litre V10 engine which had the basic underpinnings of a Chrysler truck engine, but was re-worked by Lamborghini to make it more suitable for sports car use. The body of the car was formed from a Tubular steel frame with fiberglass bodywork panels and the whole car weighed in at just shy of 1500kg. No driver aids (other than power steering) were fitted, the 335 section rear tyres being left to deliver the 400bhp to the tarmac via right foot control only!
The Roadster was designed for use as an open top car, and so was built with no exterior door handles, side widows or useful roof which helped to keep weight to a minimum. Slot in canvas and plastic side screens and a clip on fabric roof were provided, but were of little real use out on the road or in poor weather. A clip on tonneau cover was also available to help keep the elements out if required.

These early Vipers have been likened to playing ping pong with a baseball bat! They offer sledge hammer performance in a very basic package. Straight line acceleration is impressive and the sound track once the engine gets into the mid-range is just epic! Grip levels are fairly impressive, however with so much torque on tap at fairly low RPM’s and no driver aids, these cars demand concentration and respect if driven hard.

The driving position is takes a few minutes to get used to. You sit very low in the car, quite close to the wrap-around wind-screen next to the huge transmission tunnel, Its very snug but comfortable. Push the clutch pedal, and twist the key and the 8.0 V10 bursts into life sending a deep resonance through the whole car.
The clutch is surprisingly light and the gear box fairly simple to navigate. The car eases away in 1st gear with an ease you’re not expecting! Once on the road, the car is actually very easy to drive and burbles along very quietly with no drama whatsoever. It’s possible to cruise at 35mph in 6th gear with the engine doing just 300rpm! The brakes are again, light to use and provide steady smooth and progressive stopping power.
Now, once the engine is warmed up and you find some quiet open road things can change fairly quickly. Hold the gears up into the mid-range and the whole dynamic changes. The engine burble quickly becomes an insanely loud roar and the car pulls relentlessly towards the horizon! The fairly quick steering rack which makes light work of the slow heavy traffic roads in built up areas becomes very sensitive at speed and allows the car to change direction in a heartbeat. It’s not for the faint hearted, but it puts a huge grin on your face!

Oh, and be careful not to burn your legs on the hot exhaust pipes as you climb out of the car. – Bonkers!

Needless to say, this car is very quick and very noisy

The car was originally delivered new to its original European owner in Austria in 1992 and then came to the UK on the 01st January 1994.
The car changed hands again at a later date and then suffered some light fiberglass panel damage in November 2005. The car was sent for repair by the insurance company, however the final estimate cost of repairs with new replacement parts shipped from the USA, the time scale involved and the cost of vehicle storage and replacement hire car etc. made for an uneconomical outcome for the insurance company. This resulted with the car being listed in the UK as a category D insurance pay out - (easily repaired but deemed as uneconomical).
The Viper came into the hands of a classic car specialist who had the car repaired by a fiberglass specialist here in the UK for a fraction of the insurance companies original ‘replacement parts’ estimate. The viper and was back on the road by April 2006 and the current owner of 8 years acquired the vehicle on 19th May 2006.

During this last 8 years, the car has been maintained at the classic performance car workshop of Robinson & Douglas of Coppull, Lancashire.

The car has been used very lightly as a summer weekend car over the last few years as shown by it’s MOT history.

The current MOT runs until 27th May 2015 and shows there were no advisory points at the last inspection. The car has no outstanding finance, has never been stolen, and has never required a Condition inspection.
The car has a new set of Michelin Pilot Sport tyres and is currently road taxed until 09/14.

This extremely rare, low mileage Viper turbo ticks all the right boxes and makes all the right noises!
These early cars were made in very small numbers and very few were supplied new to the European market. As the market and demand for classic American Muscle cars continues to grow worldwide, this early 1st generation car should make a safe investment for the future.
